While 2017 was a random crazy year, there is always games that came out that made some things better. There were a few games on the list I’ve been waiting to play since their announcements came out while I was in college. I wasn’t able to play everything but here’s a few of my favorite games from 2017.
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
I’ll admit it’s a biased pick to talk about first seeing how I’m a huge fan of the Danganronpa series. The visual novel series always kept me on edge and up late at night to continue the story. I love the twists and turns, the moments when shit gets DARK. Especially the soundtrack. My God the soundtrack is amazing just listen to the investigation theme.
In V3 you play as Kaede Akamatsu, the Ultimate Pianist who was accepted into Hopes Peak Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles. Along with 16 other student with exceptional talent, they come to find out that in order “graduate”, they must commit a murder and get away it. Once a murder occurs, they have to guess who done it in a class trail. If they guess wrong, the Blackened aka the murderer graduates and everyone else dies. There was moments in the game where I almost dropped my laptop and I’ll admit cried when my favorite character died. There’s a demo of V3 to give you a taste of the series.
When I saw the the announcement trailer in 2013, I was instantly hooked. I waited for any trailer or articles talking about P5 and when it was finally released in April 2017, I did not play anything else. For those who never played a Persona game its like a M rated version of Pokemon mixed with some traditional turn based RPG game play. You play as the silent protagonist who was framed for a crime, despite trying to stop said crime. From there you start making friends, collecting Personas and try to figure out why so many people are having mental shutdowns. Not to mention how things can get dark in this game.
The Theme of breaking free from societies expectations and using the color red made this game an incredible experience. And can I talk about the soundtrack. Good Lord I was about to buy the entire soundtrack cause its so damn good. I love how it can go from a jazz laid back feeling to heavy metal when shit hits the fan. Just listen and then go play if you have a PlayStation 4.
I didn’t have a PlayStation growing up until 7th grade but I always had that one friend who had a PS1 with Tekken. I got seriously addicted to in college from Tekken Tag Tournament 2, playing with friends. Like many others, I waited tirelessly to get my hands on Tekken 7. Luck would have it, that I would get to play it in the arcades when I came to Korea. After trying most of the cast I know Lucky Chloe was going to be the main. If you gotta PS4, meet me online and lets go! Oh and side note, Akuma from Street Fighter is in here!!
Imagine you and 99 other random players being chosen for a Battle Royal in the desert or the lush green island. You have to run into buildings to find a weapon to defend yourself. Sometimes you get lucky and other times you’re screwed and your praying that you don’t get shot till you get a good weapon. While the game started out as a beta, the game grew in massive popularity. To the point where the number one game on Twitch is PUBG. In South Korea, Overwatch was the number one game in the PC Cafes. Now its taken over by PUBG with Overwatch taking a close second place.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
As mentioned before, I didn’t have a PlayStation 1, I was the N64 kid. But there was always one person who had a PS1 with Tekken and Crash Bandicoot. I never had a chance to beat the original trilogy but thanks to the reboot, I had a game that not only looks amazing, but can finally appreciate the game. You can tell that Vicarious Visions the developers, put a lot of effort into the remaster. I’m sure fans of the original trilogy can find a easter egg from the past games. And whats cool is how you can also play as Coco, Crash’s sister at any time of the games.
